Edgar Broughton Band - Edgar Broughton Band

The debut album Wasa Wasa followed in July 1969. The band achieved notoriety not to mention Police interest at the time by performing a series of "Free Concerts" some performed from the back of a truck. The Edgar Broughton Band achieved a suitably large cult following and enjoyed widespread popularity across the UK and also into Europe. The band also enjoyed commercial success with albums at this time such as Sing Brother Sing, The Edgar Broughton Band, Inside Out and Oora all of which were released on the Harvest label. In addition to the albums the band also released a number of singles with two of these singles Out Demons Out and Apache Drop Out achieving chart success.

Following the release of Oora in 1973 the band signed to the NEMS record label and released the album Bandages in 1975 although due to legal problems the band was placed on ice for four years while these problems were sorted. Returning in 1979 as The Broughton's the band released Parlez-Vous English for the Infinity label and also managed to secure a number of high profile tours including one with former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. The band then went into another lengthy hiatus which was broken through the eighties and nineties by infrequent bouts of touring and an album entitled Superchip in 1982. The band returned to full active touring duty with the re release of their back catalogue in 2006 and continue to this day still led by founder Edgar Broughton supported by fellow founder members Steve Broughton and Arthur Grant and latest member Luke Grant.

This DVD performance captures the band at two different periods of their career. Firstly we have a number of performances from German television with previously unseen footage including versions of Apache Dropout and Silver Needle. The second period covered comes from 1973 and a Swedish television performance that includes the bands rallying call Out demon's Out. As there is renewed interest in the Broughton's due to increased touring activity and also the release of the back catalogue this DVD will be of interest in the still large and dedicated fan base commanded by the band.

Archive footage of the Edgar Broughton Band at their height isn't
exactly thick on the ground which is why the arrival of this
collection of early 70s TV appearances is a cause for universal
rejoicing. Presumed lost until recently rediscovered lurking in the
vaults of the relevant TV companies the best part of 40 years later,
this collection of archive European TV footage captures the Broughtons
at the height of their powers during the early 70s and serves as a
testament to the band's high profile success at the time. Shot for
German TV in two sessions in March and August 1970, the earlier
footage includes performances of 'American Boy Soldier', Love In The
Rain', 'Silver Needle' plus a reworking of Captain Beefheart's 'Drop
Out Boogie'. Fast forward three years to July 1973 and the second half
of the DVD comprises footage shot for the Swedish TV show Opopoppa
including the defintive Broughton's anthem and call to arms 'Out
Demons Out'.
